Thundertaker v1

If the thunder dont get ya...

Word accelerating now in multiple model communities I am asked to update an existing model known as Thundertaker.  Not completely from scratch as previous work, this project updates a model hand carved and hotwired into a full composite airframe and permanent molds.

Working with entry level AutoCad 6 files, they were imported into Rhino and converted to class A water tight surfaces, and the wing was wholly rebuilt within the same planform shape, leveraging an airfoil schedule based on sections provided by the late Habe Norbert; converted to native geometry, elegantly surfaced and fitted to the fuselage at its angle of least drag.  On request of the customer, the slide off nose is gently forced beyond a ring machined into the fuselage, locking it in place.  Very effective.  A pop-off tailcone facilitated the fuselage molds inflation bladder.

Produced at the same time as the Kinetic 100_v1, the models drawings were updated and made modern.  From that point part files, part file coding, CNC machine ops and shipping.  Successful from the start, the customer used the model as a platform for very exotic finish schemes far above what would even be considered as normal.

Again and becoming a known, documented habit, the Thundertaker is very successful right from the start.  In my own opinion this model is on par with the Kinetic 100 v2, a workhorse one can fly hard, take home and repeat.  Short lived, few were made.

Once and yet again, no compensation of any kind was offered though a copy was asked, with the customer claiming all credit for himself.  Confronted by a pilot purchasing a copy, I learned that the customer was adamant regarding no compensation of any type or kind be granted.  This for me sparked a new moniker, The ‘California Cad.’  Again though, the Thundertaker is another notch, another step of a ladder at this point sparking international recognition and interest.  The project was covered in RCSD; ‘365 to one‘, to very, very high review.  The customer dropped a track as well; ‘DS Junkie‘; all the mentions I’ll ever get.

Click the button for free part files in IGES format.  A modernized version with the +500 mph wing will be posted as well.  Additional formats on request.
